New Violence Prevention Resources

New Prevention Institute Publications

o  Before It Occurs: Primary Prevention of Intimate Partner Violence and AbusePrevention Institute is pleased to announce the release of the updated and expanded version of The Physician's Guide To Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse, featuring a chapter co-authored by Prevention Institute and Corinne Graffunder, Branch Chief, Division of Violence Prevention, CDC.  "Informative and powerful, with easy-to-use guidance and tips that can literally save lives", the book "...is a must read", according to Family Violence Prevention Fund president, Esta Soler.  Focusing on primary prevention and applying lessons learned from past successes, our chapter presents a framework for meaningful health sector involvement in initiating the environmental change necessary to stop intimate partner violence and abuse before it occurs.  We urge you to order The Physician's Guide in its entirety.  You can preview The Physician's Guide by reading our chapter, Before It Occurs: Primary Prevention of Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse.

o  Creating Safe Environments: Violence Prevention Strategies and Programs:  Supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, NJ, Prevention Institute discusses types of approaches to violence prevention that appear most promising, with a focus on youth violence and intimate partner violence prevention. The report includes an environmental scan of sample promising violence prevention programs from across the U.S. and provides an overview of the current state of violence prevention.  Read more or download the report!

In Fond Memory of Hannah Ziegellaub

Regrettably, Prevention Institute founding board member, Hannah Ziegellaub, 61, died May 29th, 2006 in New York City of complications from multiple sclerosis.  Born in New York City, Hannah spent much of her childhood abroad, in France, Austria, Israel, and Germany, while her father worked with Jewish relief organizations after the war.  Fluent in English, German, and French, Hannah was a consummate visual artist, an activist passionately committed to social justice, and a long-time personal friend of many at Prevention Institute.  A painting of Hannah's hangs prominently in the center of Prevention Institute's meeting space.  She was a true inspiration to us all and will be greatly missed.
