Prevention Institute, with funding from the Blue Shield of California Foundation, has launched Safety Through Connection, a new program to catalyze community-based approaches that can help prevent domestic violence.
KVPR’s Valley Edition program interviews Genoveva Islas of Cultiva La Salud about Safety Through Connection, a new Prevention Institute program designed to support community-based approaches to prevent intimate partner violence. Through the program, which is funded by the Blue Shield of California Foundation, five California collaboratives are receiving one-year planning and capacity-building grants to address the risk of intimate partner violence among low-wage workers, rural and tribal communities, immigrants, and other communities that face high rates of this type of violence. No matter what issues you focus on, it’s been a hard year for health, safety, and wellbeing in the US. As we come to the end of 2018, we find ourselves looking for bright spots and want to share a few successes. Collectively, they remind us how critical it is to continue fighting against the barrage of threats to the most vulnerable in our society while also working toward a healthier and more just future.
