Leading Health Foundations Say Prevention is Vital to Health Systems Reform

Letter signed by leaders of six major foundations says prevention measures must be "scaled up."

With the health care reform debate taking center stage in Washington, D.C., and around the country, Prevention Institute’s Board of Directors announced their formal endorsement and support for a public plan option. This is the first time the leading prevention group has taken an official position on a medical services issue.

A new poll released today shows voters across the political spectrum support health care delivery system reforms that place greater emphasis on prevention.

Sixty-five percent of Democrats and 62 percent of Republicans agree that the current system places far less emphasis on prevention than it should.
