Now Accepting Nominations for the

2007 Journalism Award for

Excellence in Nutrition and Physical Activity

New extended deadline is December 15, 2006!

The Strategic Alliance for Healthy Food and Activity Environments is pleased to announce that we will be giving out our second Journalism Award for Excellence in Nutrition and Physical Activity during the 2007 California Childhood Obesity Conference in Anaheim. Given the media’s critical influence on the debate around healthy eating and physical activity, the award acknowledges an individual reporter who strives to include an environmental and policy perspective in their coverage of nutrition and physical activity.   

We are currently accepting nominations from all Strategic Alliance members. In order to nominate a reporter, they should meet the following criteria:

• Positively contributes to the readership’s understanding of physical activity and nutrition issues from an ecological perspective rather than solely an individual perspective
• Portrays credible health professionals and nutrition and physical activity advocates equally as experts in the field
• Utilizes relevant data (studies, reports, statistics etc.) about nutrition and physical activity in a consistent and accurate fashion
• Displays knowledge and investment in physical activity/nutrition issues by discussing relevant opposing viewpoints without bias
• Exhibits excellent writing skills and creativity in coverage

Nominations must be submitted by December 15, 2006, on the nomination form via email or fax.  One form should be submitted for each nomination.  In addition to the completed nomination form, please include an article that reflects the nominee’s coverage of the issue.
