The Strategic Alliance for Healthy Food and Activity Environments is a coalition of nutrition and physical activity advocates which serves as an independent voice that is separate from, but able to influence, government and industry.

Strategic Alliance Structure

Prevention Institute provides core staffing to the Strategic Alliance, including coordination of strategy development, outreach, training, media and research.

The Steering Committee of the Strategic Alliance establishes the overall program & campaign directions for the Alliance. The Steering Committee is currently comprised of 13 organizations: California Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness Program (CANFit), California Center for Public Health Advocacy, California Food Policy Advocates, California Pan-Ethnic Health Network, California Park & Recreation Society, California Project LEAN, California WIC Association, Child Care Food Program Roundtable, Latino Health Access, Partnership for the Public's Health, Prevention Institute, Samuels & Associates, and YMCA of the East Bay.

Individual members can participate as advisors to the Steering Committee in educational meetings and strategy sessions. They also participate through ad-hoc sub-committees/working groups established on an as needed basis. Members will be asked to endorse specific Alliance campaigns. Members will be informed about relevant events and specific policy actions.

The Strategic Alliance has a strong commitment to ensuring its members reflects the diversity of California and seeks to build an active membership and form partnerships with diverse organizations and individuals throughout California that support the general principles of the Strategic Alliance. Strategic Alliance Funding

The Strategic Alliance is funded by The California Endowment. The Endowment makes grants to organizations and institutions that directly benefit the health and well being of the people of California.

The Strategic Alliance is funded in part by a grant from The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF). Created in 1992 as an independent, private foundation, TCWF's mission is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention programs.
