Ways to Be Involved with the Strategic Alliance

Strategic Alliance members share a commitment to the principles and actions of the Alliance. There are many ways for members to get involved. Here are a few examples.

Join

• Join the Strategic Alliance today to receive email updates about how to improve nutrition and physical activity opportunities in your community and statewide.
• Volunteer for a Strategic Alliance working group or participate in a local coalition.
• Participate in statewide efforts to collect data and promote campaigns around specific issues (e.g. document marketing aimed at children in local supermarkets, and ask supermarkets to meet recommended guidelines for responsible marketing to children).

Speak Out

• Participate in ENACT Lobby Day in Sacramento in the spring.
• Respond to legislative alerts throughout the year and get others to respond.
• Speak up at PTA, school board and local planning meetings about the importance of creating healthy food and activity environments in your community.
• Write letters to the editor and call TV and radio stations if they focus only on the personal responsibility side to obesity prevention. Encourage coverage that highlights environmental approaches.

Learn

• Check www.eatbettermovemore.org often for resources, legislative updates and research highlights.
• Participate in a Strategic Alliance community event.

Share

• Share ideas and request information through the Strategic Alliance website.

Host

• Sponsor educational events and membership meetings in your community.
• Bring the Environmental Nutrition and Activity Community (ENACT) Strategies to your workplace, school, organization or community.
