UNITY Policy Platform

E-mail Print

Endorse the UNITY Policy Platform. Be part of the growing momentum for preventing violence in the U.S. and reinforce the need to support local efforts. Cities can't do this alone, but together we can prevent violence and create peaceful streets with thriving youth.

The UNITY Policy Platform describes what needs to be in place on the ground in cities to prevent violence, and delineates the supports cities need for their efforts to be successful and sustainable. The UNITY Policy Platform is a summary of the UNITY Urban Agenda, which emphasizes the need to bring to scale a multi-sector approach to reducing violence in U.S. cities. The UNITY Urban Agenda and Policy Platform were developed in partnership with representatives of cities across the country and are endorsed by the city representatives.

Though the UNITY Policy Platform was developed specifically to prevent violence affecting youth in urban environments, many of its principles and recommendations can be applied more broadly to reduce violence everywhere. Further, it reflects an understanding of the relationship between multiple forms of violence (e.g., street and family violence), which are all too prevalent in communities across the U.S.
