Poised for Prevention: Advancing Promising Approaches to Primary Prevention of Intimate Partner Violence

May 2007

With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Prevention Institute's new report showcases the preliminary conclusions from a national gathering of intimate partner violence (IPV) leaders in September 2006: Poised for Prevention: Advancing Promising Approaches to Primary Prevention of Intimate Partner Violence.  The report - intended as the vision from which a national primary prevention strategy can be built - includes a discussion of primary prevention of IPV, promising approaches to environmental/norms change, an examination of IPV primary prevention within immigrant communities, recommended actions to building momentum for primary prevention of IPV, and immediate next steps.

A Lifetime Commitment to Violence Prevention: The Alameda County Blueprint (PDF)

July 2005

This Blueprint was developed by a diverse group of stakeholders from across the county representing city and county elected officials, county departments and agencies, city program staff and police chiefs, legislators, community based organizations, and youth. Participants met regularly over the course of nine months to discuss structure and content issues and reviewed materials in between. Further, their work was informed by interviews and focus groups with additional elected officials, law enforcement, youth, community-based and grassroots organizations, agency and department staff and leadership, and others. First Steps: Taking Action Early To Prevent Violence

The First Steps report synthesizes research, presents best practices, and offers a comprehensive strategy to inform violence prevention efforts targeted at the 0-5 population. The report includes 15 specific recommendations, along with case studies and suggested activities at the individual, family, community, organizational, and policy levels.
