On Tuesday, October 8, 2019 we will convene a diverse set of professionals to explore opportunities, actions and strategies that can be utilized to Uplift Men and Boys of Color (MBOC) and accomplish My Brothers Keeper (MBK) objectives in California. Speakers include public health and mental health practitioners, non-profit organizations, health departments, policy-makers, funders, artists, community advocates, law enforcement and probation, researchers, school personnel, local elected officials and youth. We expect a crowd of up to 125+ participants representing dozens of organizations convening to learn more about tools and concepts that can be used to uplift men/boys and women/girls of color in California.

Uplifting Men and Boys of Color (MBOC) in California: Addressing Trauma and Promoting Mental Health Resiliency and Community Wellbeing with Native Sacred Indigenous Music and African Drumming Performance
What is the purpose of the overall purpose of the 2019 Uplifting People of Color in California conference? Like last year, the purpose of the 2019 Uplifting People of Color in California conference is to: (1) uplift people of color; (2) convene a group of established and emerging leaders of color from California’s non-profit and government sectors; (3) provide a professional networking opportunity for early-career and mid-career professionals of color from the non-profit and governmental sectors; (4) offer high-quality continuing education focused on uplifting communities of color; (5) elevate emerging leaders of color; (6) provide a forum where people of color can speak freely about issues impacting people of color; (7) develop and track countywide and statewide policies to uplift people of color; (8) promote equity; and, (9) batter down and smash racism, injustice and inequity.
What are the 2019 conference objectives? At the end of this conference, attendees will be able to (a) strengthen their professional networks; (b) identify and connect with potential professional mentors; (c) describe key issues faced by women and girls of color in California; (d) assess the impact of key health issues on people of color; ( e) understand the importance of intersectionality and multisectoral approaches in addressing issues faced by women and girls of color; (f) discuss the intersection of Trauma x Resiliency, Mental Health and Community Wellbeing; and, (g) identify policies, programs and actions that can uplift people of color.
