Strategic Alliance Joins Center for Science in the Public Interest to Launch Food Day 2011

Mark your calendars: The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has announced October 24, 2011 as the official date for Food Day 2011.

Much like Earth Day has drawn attention to environmental issues at all levels, Food Day – which we hope will become an annual event – aims to build momentum for a healthy, sustainable, and equitable food system in communities across the country. Food Day is backed by an impressive advisory board, including: Marion Nestle, Kelly Brownell, Michael Pollan, Alice Waters, and honorary co-chairs Senator Tom Harkin and Representative Rosa DeLauro.

Strategic Alliance is working in conjunction with CSPI to assemble a California Food Day team, comprised of local and state organizations and coalitions who are interested in using this day as an opportunity to highlight the important work that they are doing, hold Food Day events, and educate policymakers and the public about the impact of the food system on health, hunger, and the environment.

Whatever issue your community is working on – from sustainable agriculture to limiting unhealthy food marketing to kids – Food Day offers an opportunity to shine the spotlight on your goals and advocate for better food policies at the local, state, and national levels.

Strategic Alliance is looking for partners to help ensure Food Day is a success across California. If your organization or coalition is interested in getting involved, contact us today.

Together, we can take advantage of Food Day to make progress on our local and statewide priorities, strengthen regional networks, and build momentum nationally.

For more information, visit the Food Day 2011 website, and read the press release.
