Two steps to protect prevention funds: webinar and sign-on letter

Legislators in the Senate and House are currently negotiating longer-term extensions to the payroll tax, federal unemployment benefits, and Medicare reimbursement for physicians (the “doc fix”). As negotiators continue to search for funds to offset these extensions, we must ensure that the Prevention and Public Health Fund remains intact.

We only have until February 17 to let our legislators know that the Prevention Fund should not be used as an offset. Please sign on now to our letter urging conferees to protect the Fund and consider sending your own. We need to send a unified message of support to keep the entire Fund intact, and protect emerging and innovative prevention efforts happening right now across the country.

There’s more you can do to protect prevention. Join us for an interactive web forum on February 15, 2012, 11:30AM-12:30 PM Pacific/2:30-3:30PM Eastern, to get up-to-the-minute news on the negotiations inside the Beltway from Craig Martinez of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, as well as resources and tools for you to reach out to Congress at this critical juncture. Register now.

Sign on to our letter to the conference chairs, and consider sending your own before February 17th.

Call Congress Today to Oppose the Transportation Bill

Today is a national call-in day in opposition to house bill HR 7, which would eliminate funding for public transportation, safe routes to school and other essential active transportation efforts. Tell your representatives the bill must be defeated. Click here for a simple script and your legislators' contact information.
