Surgeon General to Release the National Prevention Council Action Plan in Sacramento: Wednesday, 6/13
Prevention Institute invites you to attend the release of The National Prevention Council Action Plan with U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin, on Wednesday June 13th in Sacramento. The Action Plan details the next steps in the federal implementation of the National Prevention Strategy – a comprehensive plan designed to help keep Americans healthy in the first place. Created by the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council, The National Prevention Strategy is an unprecedented opportunity to shift the nation from a focus on sickness and disease to one based on prevention and wellness. It emphasizes the critical role of multi-sector efforts to advance health, equity and well-being.
Prevention Institute is honored to co-host this event with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Region IX, Secretary Diana Dooley of the California Health and Human Services Agency, and The California Endowment. The event will take place in Sacramento at The California Museum at 10:30am – 12:30pm. To attend, please RSVP to Region9ord@hhs.gov. We anticipate a brief opportunity for comments.
Larry Cohen, Prevention Institute's Executive Director, will participate in a roundtable discussion on how state and local organizations can support the national plan and advance community prevention locally and across the country. In addition, Dr. Benjamin, in coordination with Department of Health and Human Services Region IX leaders, will announce an upcoming regional convening in Fall 2012 on implementation of the National Prevention Strategy in the region. Prevention Institute is gratified with this historic step for community prevention. Together, we are advancing the health of our nation.
