California Congresspeople Stand Up for Prevention; Ask Yours to Do the Same

Thanks to your efforts, 15 members of Congress from California joined together today to send a letter to President Obama, urging him to defend the Prevention and Public Health Fund from any further cuts. Now, as budget negotiations in Washington enter their final stages, we need to redouble our efforts with action.

Here’s what we’ve done so far: Supporters of prevention sent more than 1000 messages to members of Congress from California and throughout the country asking them to sign on to the letter supporting the Prevention Fund.

Here’s what’s at stake: Money from the Fund is helping states, cities and tribes around the country increase access to healthy food, promote physical activity, improve hiking and biking trails and more—all in an effort to prevent disease, keep people well and save money on healthcare costs. The Fund also supports childhood vaccinations and helps public health workers track disease.

Here’s what you can do now: We’d like everyone who supports prevention to send messages to their Representative, Senators and Congressional leaders of both parties urging them to maintain current funding levels for the Prevention Fund. If you’ve already done this, THANK YOU, and please ask a friend or colleague to follow your lead. If you’ve been waiting to take action, NOW IS THE TIME. Your voice makes a difference.

Take Action Today:

Contact your Representative, Senators and the leaders of the House and Senate and tell them: Cutting prevention to reduce the deficit is like burning dollars to cut the heating bill.
