From breastfeeding policies to fresh food access, from joint use of public spaces to safe routes to school, Strategic Alliance and its partner organizations have been influential in shaping the conversations and the policies that help Californians lead healthier lives.
While based in California, Strategic Alliance's efforts serve as models for policy and advocacy work for communities across the country. Strategic Alliance champions comprehensive approaches to promoting and protecting health and increasing health equity, including:
- Developing statewide policy recommendations adopted by the 2010 California Obesity Prevention Plan, including joint use of public spaces, creating access to fresh water in schools, and banning sweetened beverage sales in schools
- Promoting joint use strategies throughout the state through the award winning jointuse.org website
- Holding the food and beverage industry accountable for their marketing practices by shining a light on misleading food packaging with the release of Claiming Health (2011) which examined front of package labeling (symbols that identify healthier products), concluding that 84% of products studied didn't meet basic nutritional standards
