Session: CHPPD Special Topics I

Lisa Fujie Parks will share findings from Safety and Healing in Networks of Equity (SHINE), a multi-year California initiative in which culturally rooted anchor organizations and multi-sector partners addressed systemic causes of domestic violence and strengthened conditions for safe and equitable relationships and communities. She will highlight how community-centered efforts built community power, advanced upstream community-centered policies and programs, and strengthened anchor organizations as sustainable infrastructure for community-centered change.

Communities transforming the social determinants of domestic violence: Evaluation findings from the SHINE initiative
Session: Innovating Intimate Partner & Family Violence Prevention and Response: A Call To Action

Lisa Fujie Parks will highlight lessons from Safety and Healing in Networks of Equity (SHINE), a California initiative in which community organizations and multi-sector partners addressed the social determinants of domestic violence and strengthened conditions for safe and equitable relationships and communities. She will share findings from a retrospective evaluation showing how community-centered efforts can shift conditions that produce violence and support thriving, equitable communities, as well as recommendations for investing in culturally rooted anchor organizations and long-term prevention and systems change.

Session: In solidarity we act: organizing for health justice across “borders” and generations

Jordan Everett will share how Safety and Healing in Networks of Equity Houston (SHINE Houston) reimagines gender-based violence prevention through a collective healing and relational health approach that centers community leadership and systems of solidarity, care, and repair. Jordan will highlight how community partners are using participatory art, cultural healing practices, and neighborhood-based hubs to cultivate trust, advance collective action, and influence culture, narratives, systems, and policies.

Strengthening Partnerships Between Public Health, Communities, and the Media to Promote Safe and Peaceful Communities
Session: CHPPD Special Topics VI

Lisa Fujie Parks will share a new digital toolkit designed to support communities in reflecting and taking action on gun violence, safety, and healing. Developed by Prevention Institute with Ideastream and community partners in Ohio, the toolkit uses community storytelling, multimedia modules, and accessible activities to increase understanding of violence as a preventable public health issue, support solutions shaped by community members, and strengthen communities’ leadership and engagement.
