Intersections in South King County (WA)

Working with the St. Joseph Fund, we are expanding the Intersections Initiative to additional communities served by the Providence–St. Joseph Health System, building on lessons learned from earlier implementation in California. This phase of Intersections—from July 2024 to June 2027—focuses on strengthening equitable development and community wellbeing through upstream, community-driven strategies that reflect local strengths and lived experience in South King County, Washington.

This project deepens community leadership and shared decision-making by supporting community-based organizations through a peer learning and capacity-building process. Participating organizations examine the structural drivers of displacement, explore the challenges of working upstream, and identify opportunities to strengthen community wellbeing. This work reflects Intersections’ broader goal to shift systems and policies toward conditions that allow communities to remain rooted, thrive, and influence the decisions that shape their neighborhoods.

Primary activities:

• Conducting landscape analyses that integrate key documents—such as community health needs assessments—with qualitative insights from interviews, group dialogues, and other contextual and experiential data sources.

• Engaging local stakeholders, particularly community residents and community-based organizations, in responsive planning processes that help define partnership structure and strategy.

• Facilitating in-person convenings at critical junctures to support shared understanding, relationship building, and aligned action.

• Providing coaching and technical assistance tailored to core topics and real-time needs identified by partners.

• Connecting organizations and collaboratives with external technical assistance partners when deeper or specialized expertise is required.
