Amplified the voices of Black leaders in public health and prevention.

The massive 2020 mobilization to support Black lives provided an opportunity to highlight the voices and perspectives of Black-led organizations, their leaders, and their activists. We worked with our staff, board members, and partners to lift up Black voices for prevention and public health by: Placing op-eds penned by Reggie Moore of the Milwaukee Department of Public Health (Invest in people, not punishment, The Hill); and Amina Sheik Mohamed of the UC San Diego Center for Community Health. Recording podcasts featuring such speakers as Anthony Smith of Cities United alongside Cuco Rodriguez of the Hope and Heal Fund (Podcast: Ending violence by the police and in the community). Keynoting events in Ohio, Nebraska, and West Virginia, as well as at the American Public Health Association’s annual meeting, where we urged government agencies to move from aspirational statements opposing racism to operational changes.
