Policy & Systems Change in California to Advance Health Equity
Policy & Systems Change in California to Advance Health Equity
For over 2 decades, we have worked alongside community-based organizations, statewide advocates, state and local government staff, and elected officials to secure material improvements for California’s residents most impacted by health inequities. Through this work, we contribute to shifting California’s policy and systems landscape toward prevention, equity, and accountability—helping translate community priorities into durable policy change and sustained public investment.
Our work prioritizes urgent and interconnected health needs, including community-driven approaches to safety and wellbeing, healthy and equitable built environments and land use planning, and addressing racism as an underlying threat to public health.
Our approach is multi-sectoral—building momentum among diverse partners to advance upstream strategies that shift systems and conditions. We foster power building through our communities of practice by directing philanthropic and public dollars to community-based organizations and coalitions, strengthening organizational capacity and leadership for policy action. Our consultation with state and local governments embeds equity into policies, processes, and funding decisions. Working alongside advocacy and philanthropic partners, we advance policy solutions that address past harms and transform systems so they produce equitable outcomes—creating the conditions for California’s racially diverse and immigrant communities to thrive.
